More than 50 events to be included in the programme of the III International Buddhist Forum in Kalmykia

The large-scale event will take place from 25 to 28 September in Elista. Participants will discuss key topics related to Buddhism, the development of tourism potential, the prospects and practice of traditional medicine in Buddhist countries, and the preservation and advancement of the monastic institution.
"The traditions of Buddhism have greatly influenced the formation of national identity for many Russian citizens, uniting them through shared moral values and a common spiritual outlook. One of the goals of the upcoming forum is to strengthen Russia’s authority on the international stage as a country that safeguards and preserves traditional values. This opens up broad opportunities to foster religious unity within Russian society and positions Buddhism as an integral part of the country’s unified cultural and historical space.

To this end, the tools of the ‘Soul of Russia’ project, implemented by the Roscongress Foundation, will be used. The project is aimed at preserving and promoting the national heritage of Russia’s peoples in all its diversity and is founded on respect for all faiths.

Furthermore, the idea behind ‘Soul of Russia’ serves as a unifying concept for the country's regions — at the recent SPIEF 2025, it was supported at all regional stands.

Buddhism is undoubtedly a vital part of Russia’s cultural landscape and occupies an important place within it," - emphasised Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation.
The business programme will feature a plenary session titled “The Buddhist World in the New Millennium.” Discussions will cover the influence of Buddhist values on economic priorities and peacebuilding efforts, the philosophical aspects of the teachings and other related topics.
Additionally, a variety of cultural events will be held during the forum. Highlights include a musical offering to the Three Jewels featuring 1,000 musicians, the Lotus Cup martial arts festival, the Jangariada National Cultural and Sports Festival and other vibrant events.
“The III International Buddhist Forum ‘The Buddhist World in the New Millennium’ will serve not only as a spiritual gathering but also as an investment and image-building platform to present our republic to a wide international and Russian audience.

This is a landmark event. We expect delegations from over 30 countries and regions of Russia, including more than 50 representatives of the Buddhist clergy.

There is a profound understanding of the forum’s role as a tool for cultural exchange and the development of humanitarian and interethnic cooperation between Russia and Buddhist countries. We are proud that our republic contributes to strengthening relations between the Russian Federation and countries of the Asian region," - said Batu Khasikov, Head of the Republic of Kalmykia.
